On the home front…

  • I got to see my friend Becky and Jerry this week.  It has been too long since we got together but time seems to have gone by really fast.
  • Jordon has some good news about an emergency women’s shelter in Saskatoon.
  • We are redoing Mark’s new bedroom right now.  We are getting rid of the grey cement floor with something a little more inviting.  We haven’t found an area rug yet but I am sure that is just a matter of time.  I’ll post some photos when we are done.  I think it will look really, really nice.
  • Maggi is still limping a but but is recovering.

One step back

My blood pressure is still way too high.  Apparently I am going to be here a while longer.  I called Jordon, cried on the phone a bit until I calmed down and now am off to alternate between bed rest and short walks.  Thank goodness for my iPod.

Work

I have started at Safeway at The Centre Mall this week and it has been okay.  I am still an office girl which I wondered when I was moving to the new store.  It is a lot larger with almost 30 people in the deli alone.   The store is under construction but in two weeks the work will be done and there will be a Starbucks in store as well as more staffing.  The only bad thing so far is Circle Drive Bridge is under construction which means that it is quicker to drive all around the town then take the direct route across the bridge.

That being said, I do miss working with all of my friends at Market Mall.

The Evolving Church Conference

We are pleased to announce that we have planned another conference called The Evolving Church: Restoring Justice and TICKETS ARE NOW FOR SALE. The date of the conference is March 24, 2007 at The Meeting House in Oakville (no overflow like last year!). The plenary speakers will be Jim Wallis, Shane Claiborne and Ron Sider with workshops from David Fitch, Sandra Ryan, Dion Oxford, Dan Oudshoorn, Greg Paul, Rick Tobias and others.

Sounds great. All the information about registration, workshops and group rates can be found at epconference.net.

Naked Conversations

Jordon is a big fan of both Shel Israel and Robert Scoble’s weblogs and has been an avid reader of their book’s weblog, Naked Conversations.  For his birthday, the only thing he asked me for was a copy of the book and I tracked one down at McNally Robinson which was not as easy as it sounds.  I figured it would be in the business section but I didn’t realize that the book is the exact same shade of yellow as McNally Robinson’s bookshelves.  With some help I found the book and Jordon is quite fond of the book already and plans to review it over at TheOoze.  I will post a link when the review goes live.

Line Brawl

Originally uploaded by Jordon.

I have never seen a line brawl in person before. There is always a first time. This picture is of the Prince Albert goalie after he got pounded by a Saskatoon Blades player. There is a reason why goalies should not get involved. They get beat up.

Family Christmas 2005

Last night Mark, Jordon, and I went to the Reimer’s place to celebrate Christmas with them and Kristy.  We have spent almost every Christmas with the Reimers since Jordon started working at Lakeview.

As usual we ate too much, made fun of people and were made fun of.  The highlight of the evening was that Jordon got his Christmas gift from 2004.  It was a map of PEI shipwrecks that wasn’t framed.  They kept it and said they would frame it but of course life happens and it was 359 days later.  Too funny but it looks great.  I just have get Jordon to hang it.

We gave Reimer’s some books and of course Jordon got one back.  He got Stephen Ambrose’s book, Band of Brothers from which the mini-series was created from.  Jordon and I gave a book that Jordon had read (Jared Diamond’s Guns, Germs, and Steel) and one that both of us want to read (Shackleton’s Endurance photographs) as gifts.  We also were given a gift of giving in that Reimers gave 100 kg of corn to a family in Burkina Faso in our name. Cool.

Taking over the world?

According to Jared Siebert and Jordon, this is the communications strategy for the Free Methodist Church in Canada. It looks more like an invasion plan for a small nation. If I am Luxembourg, I would be very worried.

Women’s Hands Cleaner Than Men, Study Says

So gross. Atlanta Braves fans are DISGUSTING

Men are dirtier than women. So scientists confirmed by spying in public restrooms, watching as one-quarter of men left without washing their hands.

The worst offenders were at an Atlanta Braves game.

In contrast, 90 percent of the women did wash up.

Wednesday’s results mark the American Society of Microbiology’s latest look at how many people take what is considered the single easiest step to staying healthy: spending 20 seconds rubbing with soap under the faucet.

It also explains why these infection experts tend to use paper towels to open bathroom doors. There is no telling what germs the person before you left on the knob.

“It’s a gamble,” said microbiologist Judy Daly of Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, the society’s secretary.
