Vacation So Far

Jordon has posted a quick recap of our vacation so far.  The highlight of our trip was a drive through the Qu’Appelle Valley where we saw the Fieldstone Inn and St. Nicholas Anglican Church.

Incredible

Gone Fishin’

Tomorrow we are off the cabin for the week.  The last couple of days we have been busy making lists, packing the vehicle, and planning what we are going to do up there.  While I have posted some big plans for the cabin in the future.  For our vacation this week, we plan to drink cool drinks, eat some good food, do some horseback riding, canoeing, swimming and chilling out in the gazebo.  We just brought up a new queen sized bed which will be a lot nicer than the three quarter bed we had before.  There isn’t a lot of room in our bedroom but it isn’t as if I am running laps in there.

Regardless of whether or not you are visiting us or someone else this summer, here is a fun article that gives you an idea of how to be a cabin superstar and make sure you get an invite back.

A lo-fi urban country club

Jordon has a great post over the cabin weblog about creatively reusing urban spaces… in this case it’s a secret urban country club.

The summer so far…

Here is a quick update on the summer as it happens…

  • I have been posting a lot of recipes that get used up at the lake
  • We finally got a new bed up at the lake rather than the three quarter one that we have been using.  We are keeping our three quarter bed frame and tossing out the one that Oliver uses.  Ours will be repainted until we add either a day bed or get a loft constructed.
  • We bought and installed a new gazebo for the cabin
  • Mark spent a week at Beaver Creek Camp which is his first time away from home.  We weren’t that worried about him.  We know the camp directors and quite a few Salvation Army Community Centre staff found excuses to go out last week and reported back good things.
  • I struggle with depression every summer and December and this year is no different.  I am driving Jordon crazy with it but he has been a huge help.
  • Lifestyle at SafewayThe Safeway store I work at just turned into a Lifestyle store.  It has meant a massive storewide renovation and the old store looks really good.  It is grand opening weekend which means lots of managers and extra staff.  Fun to see old friends but it was very, very, crowded in there.  I can’t wait until the extra managers and staff go back to their home stores and things return to normal.

Summer

I am taking the summer off around here.  I may post something again once fall comes.
