The 12 worst and best shampoos

Jordon and I had been married for a week and we had $80 to our name.  I had long hair at the time and went out to get some shampoo at Nutters.  It cost $75 with taxes.  Jordon wasn’t so much angry as in shock.  Of course I got defensive and went on this rant about how my hair had to have $75 shampoo.  Of course when I got off my high horse, started paying attention to the budget and started get shampoo that wasn’t designed for a super model, my hair looked just as good.  It’s a fact that Jordon reminds me of once in a while.

In honor of spending a lot of money that I didn’t need to, here is MSNBC’s 12 best and worst shampoos.

The problem with Twitter

I’ll post this for Gloria, who doesn’t really understand Twitter :-)

Lately

I haven’t been blogging much lately.  Here is a quick catch up.

  • Since early March Jordon has been quite ill.  He got it, gave it to Mark, who gave it to me, who gave it to Oliver.  Of the four of us, Jordon was in the most pain (he broke a rib while coughing) but Oliver had to spend some time at Royal University Hospital because of pneumonia.  We are all better now although all of us have a lingering cough.
  • Jordon went to Chicago for a week and took some fabulous photos while he was there.  He also brought me home the biggest mug I have ever seen full of Hersey’s chocolate and a Chicago Cubs shirt.
  • We are slowly starting to make some plans to get to the lake.  There is a lot of snow in Saskatoon and even more at the lake but I think next weekend we will make our way up there.  Over the last week we have been heading to places like the Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Rona, and Home Outfitters looking around for some ideas for the lake.  While Jordon and Mark want the full sized hot dog stand that Home Outfitters has for the lake, more rational heads prevailed.  We did decide on getting a 10×10 gazebo for the lake to tuck in beside the cabin.  We bought a $40 one last year and while it worked out well, you had to take it down each time you left as it was not designed to weather the elements.  The one we decided on will handle more extreme weather and will add 100 square feet to the cabin as well as provide some shade for us to relax in during the hot summer months.
  • We finally have our own individual garbage pickup bin.  We have been sharing with four (and then three) other houses for years and if you wait for more than an hour after the garbage truck goes by, you are too late.  Now we have a smaller one but it is our bin and it is a lot easier to do some cleaning and tossing around here without worrying that some idiot down the block is sneaking down our alley at night and filling all of our bins with his construction waste.
  • Saskatoon is the ninth most violent city on the planet and Saskatchewan has double the amount of AIDS cases then the rest of Canada per capita.
  • Since I started helping out at the Centre, I never realized what a learning curve it would be.  Jordon says lots that he looks forward to the day where he would deal with a simple yes/no situation but for guys living in poverty, it is a lot more complicated than that.  Everything is more complicated and harder.  Health care, navigating the system, finding affordable housing, getting groceries.
  • Mark fell on the ice while goofing off with friends yesterday.  He managed to hit his face and seal his eye shut.  He was upset last night about it but today is in a far better mood.  It looks a little purpler today but the swelling has gone down.  The school put a band aid on his eye which got his eyebrow.  He didn’t want to take the band aid off because it hurt pulling the hair out.  Jordon told him he knew a way to make it not hurt and just quickly pulled it off.  He was right, it didn’t hurt and Mark was fine.

Is This A Good Idea?

The Hour explores Jay Schafer and the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company’s vision of small homes and asks if this is a good idea?

This and that

  • Jordon turns 35 today.  He managed to offend one friend with this post but I think it does sum up where he is these days in a light heated manner.
  • We are all sick around here.  I have never seen Jordon struggle with a cold and cough like he has.  He coughed so hard and violently he broke a rib and then developed pneumonia.  The rest of us got off easier but Ollie, Mark, and I all have laryngitis.
  • Helping out at the Centre has been a good experience.  I had to call in sick today and when I talked to the manager in charge of the drop in centre, Laurie had a hard time figuring out who she was talking to.
  • Lee was in a bad car accident this morning coming home from work.  His car was totalled and he was hurt but he will be okay.  Pray for a quick recovery.
