Oliver rolled over for the first time yesterday. He hates laying on his stomach and he got mad enough to finally roll over on his back. Today his big accomplishment was working out a poo that took about four hours of grunting. Two big days in a row.

This morning we kept Mark home from school so he could watch President Elect Barack Obama become President Barack Obama. We started watching it at home but around ten I stopped by the Centre to watch the Inauguration with Jordon and his co-workers. We watched the oath of office together, commented on the crowds, how Obama tripped over the oath, and made a joke about the ratio of people to toilets.
I tried to explain the significance of what Mark was seeing and I think he got a little of it but hopefully he will look back at today and be able to see it as a day when race and the color of your skin mattered a lot less then the person inside it.
With Tamara back in Saskatoon, Saturday seemed to be a good day to stop by and introduce Oliver to Chela and take a couple photographs of the two together chilling out. We had a good time and the kids were a remarkably cooperative pair.
The entire Flickr photoset is online here.
My friend Micheala and her daughter Taylah came by the other night for supper and Micheala and Mark dueled in a game of Guitar Hero.
In the end Micheala won again and Mark didn’t take it too well but everyone had a fun time reliving the days of classic rock.
Jordon blogs about our furnace taking a short sabbatical during a cold spell. It all worked out in the end and the house is warming up nicely.
Our furnace died tonight. Plumber has been in three times today and the total amount isn’t that much. The end result is that we will have heat tonight. We may be broke but we will be warm.

What Would Darren Friesen Do?

The other night I needed something so I went to get a piece of paper out of my knapsack and there were a bunch of them. Jordon just looked at me and said, “There is a better way to organize your life than notes written down on scrap pieces of paper.” Off he went to Staples and bought me a Looney Tunes Daytimer and a Moleskine extra large cahier. He bribed me to give it a try when he bought me some cool gel pens as well.
Darren Friesen got Jordon coverted to the idea of keeping all of his thoughts, lists, ideas, and projects in one book. Jordon starts each idea with a date which makes it easy to find stuff later on with. Everything gets written in there and later transferred to another place if neccasary. It worked pretty well for Jordon and it has worked well for me so far. Darren’s notebooks are blank but I prefer lined notebooks. The daytimer is just for me to keep track of the dates and appointments for Mark, Oliver, and most importantly myself. It is something that I have been horrible at and I am working at getting better at.
For Christmas Jordon gave me a cool CBC Radio reporters bag and the two books are kept in there. Before I go to bed at night, Jordon and I sit down and I make my plan for tomorrow in it and then the first thing in the morning, I start working on my to-do list. It keeps Jordon and I on the same page and allows him to know things that I could use his help with and stuff I can do to help him. It is nothing complex but for me it has made a difference for me.
Like I wrote the other day, thoughts seems like twirling leaves going around and around me. It didn’t help that my thoughts and information was kept in the bottom of a bag in a random pile that if the wind blew or if I walked by a fan, would go whirling and whirling around me.
The Darren Friesen Organizational System ™ is not for everyone but it is working surprisingly well so far for me and it is making Jordon’s life a little less stressful as well.
