Some Fun News

Monday news

Well I have managed to organize the junk in the kitchen “junk drawers” and the linen closet enough to line up with my latent anal retentive tendencies.  Miscellaneous articles have been appropriately labeled and put in their respective containers.  However, the basement and I are not yet on speaking terms.

As a reward I had a chick night with Krista and we watched “French Kiss“.  It was fun to chat and relax and have tea and scones and homemade Eatmore bars.  Hopefully I will sleep well tonight having suffered from slight insomnia the night before.  It probably wouldn’t have been to bad if the “Hunt for Red October” hadn’t been on.  That movie is a great example of a timeless classic.

Maggi had a bad day however.  She woke at five this morning making these gross smacking licking noises.  I discovered that she had found a once full tub of Vaseline and ate almost all of it before I could yank it away.  There is presently some well preserved goo in our yard that may not be very environmentally friendly to deal with.  To say that she has appeared anxious today would be an understatement.

Sitting on the deck

Despite the cold and snow that we are experiencing, summer isn’t that far off which means sitting on the deck and at the same time, being bitten by mosquitos.  After Jordon getting West Nile last year, we are a little more careful of the annoying bugs.  We have always had citronella candles going outside but when the mosquitos are bad, it doesn’t help.

We had talked about getting a gazebo for the backyard but we don’t think we would use it if it was off the deck.   Today the Jysk flyer came out and had mosquito nets for your patio umbrella.  It includes the comfort of not being eaten by anything and can fit on our patio.  Thank goodness for Finish ingenuity.

Saskatoon Symphony Book Sale

Hardy_boys_cover_01 The annual Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra book sale is on right now at Confederation Park Mall.  We went buy and bought Mark some old Hardy Boys hardcovers and also some books from the Danny Orlis series which I had never heard of until I married Jordon.  As the series is described…

“Adventure, mystery, suspense – these make up every Danny Orlis story. From the northern Canadian wilderness to the steaming jungles of Guatemala, Danny meets danger and mystery as well as everyday problems in the homeland. He is a capable outdoorsman, a skilled athlete — and above all a consistent Christian. Quick action, quiet courage, and level-headed thinking often save the day as Danny uses his resources to the fullest. His ability to apply biblical solutions to every situation makes him a unique personality whose experiences often provide realistic guidelines for Christian youth facing similar difficulties.”

Of course the one that Jordon remembers the most is the one where Danny gets his hand trapped in a beaver trap.   He can’t remember what Biblical principle he used to get out of that.

On the way home Mark was already telling us about Frank and Joe and seemed quite happy to be reading about their adventures.

Of course the best part about the Symphony Book Sale is the prices.  11 books for $16 is a pretty good deal.

The Saskatoon Salvation Army Community Centre

For the last couple of weeks Jordon has been working on a new website for the Salvation Army Community Centre.  I don’t know what everyone else thinks but I think it does good job of showing what they do.  Jordon heads up the Residential Services but if you have some time, check out their full listing of programs, it is pretty crazy that a small centre has such a big reach in Saskatoon.  Their kitchen alone served almost 70,000 meals in 2007 to the public.

Night at the Rawlco Radio Hall

Jordon blogs about At the End of Her Rope by Cheryl Jack.  I agree with his review, one of the best plays I have seen in years.
