Christmas Partying Along
December 15, 2007 by Wendy Cooper
Friday night Jordon and I went to the Salvation Army Community Centre’s Christmas party. Last year it was a lot of fun and this year the staff of the Centre and Bethany Home piled on to a city bus and we all rode out to The Barn Playhouse which puts on a night of dinner theatre in a barn on a farm outside of Saskatoon.
On the ride out Major Judy hosted the festivities with some trivia, some draws, and much heckling. Jordon won a couple of times including a flex day. He also partnered with one of the cooks and they split a prize. It was a Looney Tunes salt and pepper shaker set so I assume he gets either salt or pepper. One thing I have learned about talking with staff at the Centre is that most of the ones that are there have very funny senses of humor and they were in full force on the bus. The bus ride out to the Centre was fun enough that even if nothing else had happened, I would have said it was a great party. I assume the reason to put us all on the bus was to make it easier and safer for us to get there but it was a good idea because it was so foggy going out there, the bus driver missed the turn and we have to do a U-turn on the highway in a city bus. I thought for a second that we might have gotten stuck but all was good.
Of course The Barn Playhouse is famous around Saskatoon and they put on a great dinner and a funny and comedy called Christmas Bells. While the wooden seats in the theatre section of the Barn were a little hard on our butts, the play was very well done. Maybe not the caliber of Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan but for a community theatre company, it was pretty outstanding. All in all it was the longest Christmas party I have ever been to. From us leaving the Centre, it was six hours until we got back. While some of us looked a bit tired on the bus ride home, it was a great evening. During the play I leaned over and told Jordon that I hope we can do it next year with some friends.
The kids of the employees were not invited to this but rather had their own party at the Saskatoon Salvation Army Temple today. It was full of games, pizza and a visit from Santa Claus. Mark was given a pretty nice gift and he is thrilled with it.
My staff Christmas party didn’t go quite as well. They had big plans but no one wanted to go so they are going out drinking tonight instead. Not quite the Christmas spirit at my work as there with Jordon’s and so we are skipping that one and having a nice quiet night at home.
