Spring Update
June 19, 2007 by Wendy Cooper
I haven’t been posting a lot lately and have been pretty busy with life but here are the highlights.
- The transition from Market Mall Safeway to the new Safeway at The Centre Mall is pretty much complete but I miss my old store badly. I made some wonderful friends there and we worked well as team which is easier in a smaller store. The new Safeway is way bigger and I don’t even know all off my co-workers names which is a result of working in a larger store. It isn’t that I don’t like the old store it is just that I really enjoyed working at Market Mall Safeway but that is just way it goes some days. The good parts are seeing some people that I haven’t seen in a while and the food court at The Centre Mall is the nicest in the city which means that I can find a relaxing place to have a coffee.
- Our yard is looking nice. We planted a row of pyramid cedars this year and had to reseed a large part of our front yard where Maggi killed off the grass. We used a blend of grass from Early’s Farm and Garden Centre that the city uses for it’s boulevards and parks that hopefully will stand up to the abuse that Mark, Maggi, and Hutch do to it. When you toss a Frisbee to Maggi, she actually digs up divots getting to it. We moved the fire pit closer to the deck as well. This weekend I think we are painting and sanding the deck and other than that, we only have to paint the fence.
- Jordon’s work schedule is a mess for most of June and July. With vacations coming he is working all sorts of weird shifts which messes up my schedule. The long and the short of it is that they don’t make Jordon work weird shifts, he offers a lot of time to work some weird hours to make it easier and I think he enjoys the variety.
- It was nine years ago this summer that Jordon and I went to Waskesiu for a badly needed vacation. I was a mess and miserable to the point where Jordon was thinking we were heading to a divorce. It was there I told him that I had been molested over a number of years growing up. It wasn’t easy coming into the open about it. Some people didn’t believe me and others felt the need to defend the person who did it. The result were a lot of broken relationships from my past and a lot of rumors, slander, and accusations. I have been accused to being practicing witchcraft, a lesbian, abused by Jordon, and having a mental illness. All of these rumors not been a lot of fun to deal with and explains why I never head back to Brandon anymore. Along the way I lost most relationships with my family, two bouts with depression (which I made the mistake of writing about here which fueled the mental illness spin). Do I have any regrets? There are some sadness in that Mark will grow up alone without any extended family other than Lee and there have been some truly awful days/weeks/months but in the end it is better than living a lie.
- The novel is coming along slowly but is a lot of fun. I was using Google Documents for writing it but I am now using AbiWord which Jordon set up for me. For a writer, it is an amazing freeware word processor. It allows me to write and it stays out of my way. I really enjoy using it. Now if it only helped with character development.
