Spring Upgrades
March 30, 2007 by Wendy Cooper
The snow is slowly disappearing from our yard. We received 40% more snow this year than normal and the city has been warning of flooding. We took the advice of the city and we didn’t have any water in our basement. Our yard is a big mudhole though and that will take a while to dry out. We have been planning for the summer and that involves getting some new ceiling fans for the dining room to circulate air on the main floor and also one in Mark’s bedroom. Canadian Tire had some fans 50% off so we got one for the dining room and we will just pick up a cheap one for Mark’s room which has less ceiling clearance. His room becomes nauseatingly hot in the summer and we are hoping two fans up there with the windows open will help somewhat.
Our other plan is to bring back our solar powered landscape lights. We had them a couple of years ago until they all got stolen/punted one by one. We were in XSCargo and they had some for $2.99 a light. I am going to light up my perennial garden and we are going to light up the patio. We had some in the front yard and they were fine the first summer but by the second one, they started to get stolen one by one. The plan is just to put them into my flower garden and we will see how it goes from there. Even at $3 a piece, one doesn’t like constantly replacing stolen items.
While we were at Canadian Tire, we also got Mark his first tennis racket. He was even more impressed when he realized it was made by Cooper (which is now owned by Nike). Jordon and I agree that it is light years ahead of our first tennis rackets and for $8, one can’t go wrong. Mark was quite happy with the idea of joining Jordon and I for some tennis this summer. Jordon started playing tennis about the same age and has played ever since. I started playing later but I might as well play Mark while I still have a chance of winning.
Jordon told Mark that they could play outside on the side street a bit once the snow left. I can’t even imagine the outrage that Maggi would feel seeing those two playing with a tennis ball and her not fetching anything. It could amount to cruel and unusual punishment for a dog who loves her tennis balls.
