Dreaming of summer
January 24, 2007 by Wendy Cooper
When Jordon came back from Southern California last October, he told me a small backyard in Newport Beach with a bar in the back of it, kind of like those bars everyone had in their rumpus rooms in the 1970s.
The other day while we were talking about what to do with our backyard in 2007, we started talking about this again. Luckily Jordon snapped a photo of it as he walked by. While we didn’t like the roof and instead am going to mount an outdoor umbrella on it that can put up when outside and not have to worry about the winds, we thought it would be a fun addition to our yard. It will be about 4 feet tall, 7 feet wide, and 22 inches deep. Jordon thought this one might have had a sink in it but ours will just have a place for a cooler to toss in the back of it. We priced out what new lumber would be at Home Depot and Co-op and with econo studs and spruce fence boards, about $45 (we already have an umbrella). After doing that, we checked out the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store and they didn’t have any fence boards in but we looked at some counter tops and it was cheaper in the end to just get some plywood for the top.
While we were out at Home Depot, I picked up some idea flyers for painting Mark’s room. He wants a Calgary Flames and Lightening McQueen room which means red paint and some posters which seems manageable. That project starts this week.

have fun on the renos - and if you’d like to learn from my mistakes make sure you use a tinted primer underneath the red paint - otherwise you will have to use about six coats - for some reason it’s a hard color to paint.
I never thought of that. Thanks for the tip.
