Living in the prairies you are used to all sorts of crazy weather, from blazingly hot summers to winters so cold that when you breathe in the inside of your nose freezes. But today may be the first snow day in my memory.
There has been lots of times when there is a weather advisory saying not to travel on the highway. That happens a couple of times each winter. Today the visibility was at times non-existent and the wind and snow were fierce. To the point where people were spending the night in their place of work. People were not being discharged from hospitals and businesses closed early so that workers could get home safely. Even with all the cautions people were still stuck for three to four hours in transit from home to work which at its worst in Saskatoon is fifteen to twenty minutes.
The radio has been keeping everyone up to date on not only the weather but giving chances for people to call in with their own stories, adventures and offers of refuge. It gives you a warm feeling to know that while hotels are completely full and things are seeming a bit bleak that people have phoned in to the radio offering up their own homes for anything from a hot chocolate to a place to sleep for the night.
We are presently tucked in for the night. Lee was sent home from Adessa early, Jordon has to work and may end up staying the night and they cancelled school for Mark tomorrow. Oh well, this will be one of those storms that we can brag about south of the border.
