Mark’s first fight
May 30, 2006 by Wendy Cooper
As I picked up Mark at his school today, I found out that he was in a fight. An older kid was beating up his friend so Mark picked up a stick and hit the kid hard enough to leave a big scratch. Apparently he was to tell the teacher that his friend was being beaten up. He loses a recess over this which he was okay but really didn’t want to tell Jordon about and had sent himself to his bedroom. Jordon didn’t take the same stand the school did and his response was to buy Mark some ice cream. While we never want to hear about Mark picking on kids or fighting to resolve a problem, we weren’t that upset that Mark had decided to defend his friend.

Somebody I once knew told me that schoolyard fights were a fact of life, and that anyone normal would get into one at some point. Hopefully that’s his last
It can be tough to affirm the intention while correcting the means. It sounds like you guys did that very well.
a brawler, just like his mom. sweet.
GO MARK GO!
When my oldest son was about 4 we were at a local baseball game, and he was playing in a big grassy area. A bigger kid (about a head taller) kept pushing him down and taking his ball away, and my son (Cam) kept looking at me to see what I’d do about it. I was watching the whole thing out of the corner of my eye so that he didn’t know I saw what was happening. The next time the older kid started to push him down, Cam stood tall and shoved him down instead. He came over to me a few minutes later, and I asked about what happened. He feigned ignorance until I told him it was okay to defend himself from bullies. He beamed. Me too.
I’m good with turning the other cheek, when it’s mine. Standing up for a friend? All I can say is well done Mark!
